Massive Disaster 4 – Interlude X

Interlude 10

The cockpit of the SSV Normandy SR-1 was a sanctuary all to itself, and in every way that really counted, a sanctuary all his own. Clean lines and flying smoother than he could ever get out of a usual Alliance rustbucket, the Jeffman would be a damn liar if he said he didn’t love every inch of the thing.

And Mama Moreau didn’t raise a liar.

A maniac of a pilot who was possibly almost executed for treason, but one-hundred-percent not a liar. Nosiireee, Bob.

Beyond the sweeping canopy of the viewport, a gas giant churned like a fresh foamy latte, its immense gravity pulling at the state-of-the-art warship (the warship he was currently not flying because they were on station hold). More than once, Jeff found himself humming along to the sound of the ship itself.

Although, he didn’t really feel the shame in it, not when the thrumming beat of the Tantalus drive core in this thing did things to his body that made him feel like he needed a NicStic. Best sound in the galaxy.

Better than music, even.

Being honest, his attention wasn’t on the sights through the viewfinder, or the star charts, or the long-range sensor sweeps, or even the sound of the ship itself. As much as he loved the Normandy’s siren song, she wasn’t calling on him quite as loudly as she usually did.
